This listing is for a STUNNING Royal Vienna style cabinet plate featuring a hand-embellished portrait at center. A timeless treasure signed by the master KPM artist, Forst, this porcelain plate depicts a young maiden. She dons a lovely, gossamer gown composed cream, yellow, and pink layers. The dark-haired woman’s shoulder is exposed by her classical ensemble, as she whimsically gathers spring blooms in a garden. A large, orange butterfly lands on the beauty’s finger, as a kaleidoscope of butterflies flutters nearby. You can almost feel the wind calmly blowing on the woman’s face. This piece is replete with realism, as the artist encapsulated emotional depth through the maiden’s serene expression. Forst captured a moment of hopeful contemplation. The maiden reaches for a butterfly, a classic symbol of change and transformation, which seemingly aligns with her own emotional journey. Her mysterious smile and endearing gaze are pregnant with clandestine knowledge that viewers are challenged to unravel. The woman’s portrait is surrounded by a thick band of lustrous gilt, while the plate also possesses a rich cobalt border. The border is encrusted with a breathtaking gilt filigree overlay, which only adds to this antique’s opulence. On the back, this Royal Vienna style plate is marked with a gold overglaze shield emblem above “Made in Austria, ” and a decorator’s mark L. Measures 8 in diameter. Excellent, preowned condition with NO chips, cracks, or repairs. The paint/gilt remains virtually unscathed by the passage of time! He is famous for his vases, decorated with military scenes and views of Berlin, some of which were found in the royal collection. He was the son of Johann Hubert Anton Forst (born 1756), who himself was the Principal porcelain painter at the KPM.
