This listing is for a STUNNING Royal Vienna style cabinet plate featuring a hand-embellished portrait at center. A timeless treasure signed by the master KPM artist, Forst, this porcelain plate depicts a scene with a young mother surrounded by her three young children – an older daughter gathering spring blooms, a boy playing a flute, and a toddler protectively embraced in her arm. The quartet dons lovely period ensembles, and is portrayed lounging beneath a lush cherry blossom tree. You can almost hear the rushing water from the nearby stream, and the flutist’s serene song. The flaxen-haired woman is a symbol of femininity and maternity. This unique piece is replete with realism. Forst encapsulated emotional depth through the love and solidarity shared between this family. The family’s portrait is surrounded by a thick band of lustrous gilt, while the plate also possesses a rich cobalt border. The border is encrusted with a breathtaking gilt filigree overlay, which only adds to this antique’s opulence. On the back, this Royal Vienna style plate is marked with a gold overglaze shield emblem above “Made in Austria, ” and a decorator’s mark L. Measures 8 in diameter. Excellent, preowned condition with NO chips, cracks, or repairs. The paint/gilt remains virtually unscathed by the passage of time! A few fine scratches. He is famous for his vases, decorated with military scenes and views of Berlin, some of which were found in the royal collection. He was the son of Johann Hubert Anton Forst (born 1756), who himself was the Principal porcelain painter at the KPM. Do not pass up your opportunity to add this lovely piece to your china cabinet today! Please reach out with any questions, or reasonable offers.
